Disney_panoramagique_ballon_2Tristane is a little girl with an underdeveloped sense of courage, rare bouts of boldness and a healthy dose of vertigo. In other words, Tristane is not the perfect candidate for PanoraMagique.

PanoraMagique is THE biggest tethered hot-air balloon. It arrived at Disney&req; Village on 9 April 2005, right at the beginning of the year of Jules Verne - a wonderful coincidence!

At the 15th anniversary celebration at the Disneyland Resort Paris, little Tristane sees the balloon shimmering in the colours of the event and finds it irresistibly divine. So, embracing her pride and throwing logic out the window, she decides to float high in the sky, scoffing at one and all - and especially at her vertigo and fright.

In 1998, as usual ahead of its time, Disneyland Resort Paris staged its very own version of the “Year of China” (the Year of China in France was some years later!). For the release of the Disney animation film Mulan, the Legend, a show of the same name was put on for the first time in Videopolis, in Discoveryland, on 28th November.

1996_tgv_disneyland_paris_2In 1996… you had to jump on the bandwagon or miss the opportunity! Okay, I admit, I’m not being very clear. In 1996, on 29th June to be precise, Eurostar made its first entrance at Marne La Vallée/Chessy train station (hence jumping on the bandwagon and all that).

The arrival of the famous blue and white train opened the Disneyland Resort Paris doors to the whole of the United Kingdom! British visitors come from London or Ashford, the two departure towns on the other side of the Channel - I’m only telling you that part to spread a bit of knowledge!

In 1994, let’s see what happened on July 24th. On this day, the Tour de France set off from Main Street U.S.A, for the last step of the tour, with the finishing line on the Champs-Elysées! I think that’s something to boast about, don’t you?

Disneyland_paris_chateau_1993_2In 1993, still on April 12th, it was Disneyland Resort Paris’ first birthday. One year old. It’s an important date. A whole year gone, with an entire series of “firsts”! First Christmas, First Parade, First Shows, and so on. To mark the occasion, the Resort transformed Sleeping Beauty’s castle into a giant birthday cake - not a bad effort at all!  Right from the start, they set the standards high, and 15 years later, they’re doing even better.

The boss is Katy Harris. You know who she is, as I’ve already interviewed her for this blog. Katy Harris is the director of the new Disney Dream Parade and the new show called High School Musical on Tour. It’s amazing what this woman can do! That’s my humble opinion anyway.

Now for the official one!

A few days ago, I showed you the film I “secretly” made of the opening of the Cars and Crush rides. As all that’s not really above board ;-) here’s the official version direct from the Disneyland Resort Paris Studios! It’s better, more professional, you could say it’s almost perfect I suppose. But you have to admit that the home-made version has a certain charm to it, doesn’t it?  (Go on, humour me, and say yes ;-)

…I played… and lost!

How pathetic… On Disneyland15.com, there are two new games. So, of course, I wanted to play! Thinking I was hot stuff, I started with Cars, because I love cars. And I kind of see myself as a champion race care driver… As for the rules, nothing could be simpler. You go three times around the track and avoid the obstacles.

Crush’s Coaster goes a bit too fast for the camera… but it gives you a good feel for the ride. Just watch and judge for yourself. You’ll feel like you were there!

Kat de Blois is an Artistic Director. There’s also something “Cats” about her - and this is a point to remember. France opened her with welcome arms 20 years ago, but before then, she was a citizen of all countries. At least that’s how I see her…
